The commands listed here may require root or sudo privileges. An X-Windows manager is required for Macintosh. IDL was tested on Mac OS X using XQuartz 2.7.11. Install IDL from a web download or a DVD as follows:
You can activate licenses on a local computer (node-locked license), or on a license server that can serve licenses to connected clients. These instructions describe how to activate node-locked licenses. To install and set up a license server, see the the Install and Administer the Flexera License Server Service documentation for Windows (flexnetserver-windows-install.html) or Linux (flexnetserver-linux-install.html), included with your software download or installation DVD.

Is the IDL Virtual Machine free to use?The IDL Virtual Machine is free to use and does not require a license to run. However, it is required to register for an account on the L3Harris Geospatial website in order to download and install. Please note that you must include all contact information in order to complete the verification process, and any information that is not included in your registration may delay verification or ultimately deny access to the download.Use of the IDL Virtual Machine requires that you install the full development version of IDL. While access to the development version requires a license, the IDL Virtual Machine portion of the software can be accessed without a license. You will be prompted to license the application after installation is complete, however as this is not required for use of the Virtual Machine you will want to cancel/exit from the dialog and see Help Article 4633 for assistance with Starting a Virtual Machine Application. For assistance with purchasing a license for the development version of IDL, contact your account manager.
How do I download the IDL Virtual Machine?Due to export control policies, download and installation of IDL (and subsequently the IDL Virtual Machine) requires that you complete the registration and verification process via the L3Harris Geospatial website. In order to create an account, please navigate to "www.l3harrisgeospatial.com" and click on 'My Account' in the top right-hand corner of your screen. From here, you should see an option to register for an account. Please be sure to fill out the information accurately and completely to ensure that your record passes successfully through the automated verification process. Please note that registration does not immediately provide access to the Download and Licensing Center. Step 1: REGISTER: Complete and submit the registration form.
Step 2: VERIFY: Verification instructions for your account will be sent to the email address associated with your registration. Please note that you will be able to login to the L3Harris Geospatial website during this time to access other parts of the website, however you will not be able to download products.
Step 4: REQUEST: Request the IDL VM download from Technical Support. Once you have registered for your account and received verification, you can request access to the Download and Licensing Center through Technical Support or your local distributor.
How do I become a verified user? After the registration process has completed, verification instructions for your account will be sent to the email address associated with your registration. This step can take up to 24 hours to be completed and your account verified by L3Harris. Please note, you will be able to log into the L3Harris Geospatial website during this time, however you will not be able to download products. If it has been more than 24 hours since registration and you are still receiving a message mentioning that you are not a verified user, please contact L3Harris Technical Support for assistance.
Is there an IDL Virtual Machine specific download? At this time, there is no separate download for the IDL Virtual Machine. To download and install the full version of IDL which includes the IDL Virtual Machine please see "How do I download the IDL Virtual Machine" above. We are looking at options for providing Virtual Machine specific distributions, however we do not currently have a time table for when or if this will be available in the future.
The entire contents of the Library can be downloaded in a tar file or in a .zip file from the the download site . Additional software, not included in the tar files, is available in a contrib directory. Individual procedures can be copied by browsing through a list of one-line descriptions. Changes to the contents of the Library are recorded in a news file. A versioned copy of the library isavailable on GitHub, and one can also be download the Library with the command git clone git://github.com/wlandsman/IDLAstro.git
Some routines in the IDL Astronomy Library make use of programs in theCoyote Graphics Library, which must be downloaded separately. Alternatively, one can download coyote_astron.tar.gz which contains a subset of the Coyote procedures needed for the Astronomy library. We also suggest downloading the MPFIT curvefitting routines developed by Craig Markwardt, although it is currently onlyused by one Astronomy Library routine (SOLVE_ASTRO ) .
(A new program, named cgFindCoyoteFiles has been added to the Library to help you findand eliminate old and out-dated versions of Coyote Library files. Runningthe program will print of list of directories on your IDL path that theprogram strongly suspects contain Coyote Library files. If you finddirectories that do contain old and out-dated Coyote programs, you shoulddelete those directories before proceeding.) The general procedure is to first download the entire Coyote Library (or Catalyst Library) as a zip file. Then, unzip the file and extract the programs to a directory that is already on your IDLpath, or to a directory you intend to put on your IDL path (see detailed instructions below). You can also download the Coyote and Catalyst Libraries from aSubversion code repository. You must have aSubversion client installed to use the repository, however. (Many UNIX systems have this installed by default and I highly recommend Windows users downloadthe TortoiseSVN application to use for this purpose.) The Subversionrepository is highly recommended as this is the main repository for all the workI do on these Libraries. You can use the repository to update to the very lastest versionof the Libraries, or to a particular tagged release. The zip files always contain the verylatest version of the Library. Note that I try extremely hard to keep the Coyote Library free of outside influence. That is to say, even though I personally use many routines from both the IDL AstronomyLibrary and the JohnsHopkins Applied Physics Lab Library, I do not use these routines in Coyote Library programs. Thus, there are no library dependencies in the Coyote Library, except from the normal IDL user library and from the Coyote Library itself. (I can think of a single exception to thisrule, cgTerminatorMap, but it is clearly identified as such.) I try hard to keep the Coyote Library away from cutting edge IDL improvments, but life does goes on. If you are using an older (e.g., IDL 6.3) versionof IDL you may find some routines in the Library no longer working for you. If you do,contact me about the problem. It'spossible I can retreive an older version of the program that works for you.
Install Internet Download Manager (IDM) to stop waiting for your downloads. You will be truly amazed how fast IDM downloads your files. IDM will also repair broken and resume interrupted downloads due to lost connections, network problems, computer shutdowns,or unexpected power outages.
Our powerful download engine uses unique algorithms to receive Internet data in a fastest possible way. IDM will accelerate downloads all times because of its innovative dynamic file segmentation technology.Unlike other download managers and accelerators, IDM segments downloaded files dynamically during download process, and it reuses available connections without additional connect and login stages to achieve the best possible acceleration performance. Our engineers have a lot of experience in download acceleration, and we constantly improve this download engine since 1999.
After installing "IDM integration module" browser extension, just continue surfing the Internet, and you will be amazed how easy is to download everything you want from your favorite web sites with IDM video download panel.
Internet Download Manager can connect to the Internet at a set time, download the files you want, disconnect, or shut down your computer when it's done. You can also synchronize changes using periodic synchronization of files. It's possible to create and schedule several download queues for downloading or synchronization.
You may choose the order, buttons and columns to appear on the main IDM window. There are several different skins for the toolbar with different button styles. All skins can be downloaded from IDM home site. Also users can design their own skins. Also you can choose the light or dark IDM theme.Choose and set up new IDM toolbar
